Fodor's Review

Two museums about how people stay connected have been amalgamated under a single roof here: the German Railway Museum and the Museum of Communication. Germany's first train began its inaugural journey on December 7, 1835 and ran from Nürnberg to nearby Fürth. A model of the epochal train is here, along with a series of original 19th- and early-20th-century trains and stagecoaches. Philatelists will want to check out some of the 40,000-odd stamps in the extensive exhibits on the German postal system. You can also find out about the history of sending messages—from old coaches to fiber-optic networks.
