One of the best things about the Hotel Klassik is its central location, within walking distance of Friedrichshain's many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The in-house restaurant serves an impressive full breakfast as well as Mediterranean-inspired fare. Guests may also wine and dine in the charming terrace garden in warm weather.
Rooms, while a bit old-fashioned with mahogany furniture and deep red and gold decor, are well appointed with comfortable beds, writing desks, Wi-Fi, a minibar, and sliding glass doors that lead out to French balconies.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Not all rooms have air-conditioning.
Bathrooms are large, if dated, with either showers or bathtubs. Suite bathrooms are more modern, with bright red and black tiles and separate tubs and showers.
The reception area abuts the modern bar, with comfortable white leather seating for lounging.
The hotel is renowned for its generous breakfast buffet. The restaurant also serves Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner, as well as classic German currywurst.
Cocktails and wines by the glass are available in the lounge, the “chimney room” (with fireplace) or out in the garden during the warmer months.
A slew of restaurants and bars and some of the city’s best nightclubs are a stone’s throw away from the hotel. The S-Bahn and U-Bahn, as well as the M10 tram and buses, are about a block away at the Warschauer Strasse station.
The sleek, all-white interior of Schneeweiss (8-minute walk) perfectly complements the kitchen’s contemporary spin on classic German and Austrian cuisine. The Michelberger Restaurant (7-minute walk) inside the Michelberger hotel has a modern European menu that incorporates organic, local and seasonal products.
This area is all about clubbing. The world-famous Berghain (9-minute walk) hosts top DJs spinning the latest electronic music. Cassiopeia (3-minute walk) is another famed dance club, set in a huge former industrial park complex. Next door is Bar Zum schmutzigen Hobby (2-minute walk), a no-frills bar with plenty of couches for lounging, plus a foosball table.
