Fodor's Expert Review Cosmo Hotel Berlin

Spittelmarkt 13, Berlin, Berlin, 10117, Germany See on Map

This well-located hotel has good-sized rooms with large windows and a small but pleasant Finnish sauna. Cosmo makes good use of this former office building, keeping the luxe marble floors and elevator and adding a plush lobby. Scent restaurant offers a breakfast buffet as well as an international menu with local and organic dishes. The Spittelmarkt location has great access to transportation, the Spree River, and the nearby Museum Island.

Ranging from standard rooms to suites, the accommodations are modern and simply designed, with warm woods and gray-and-white accents and feature either smooth parquet flooring or elegant carpeting. All have free Wi-Fi, adjustable heating and cooling and flat-screen TVs. There are views of Spittelmarkt or the park.

YOU SHOULD KNOW As the Cosmo is a member of Design Hotels, the SPG loyalty program can be used here (good if you want to avoid extra Wi-Fi charges).

Getting Around

The hotel is steps from the U-Bahn Spittelmarkt station.

Michelin-starred chef Tim Raue’s eponymous restaurant (13-minute walk) serves Asian-inspired cuisine—including an entire vegetarian tasting menu—in a refined, understated space. The fashionable crowd fills the booths at the modern, Italian-tinged Crackers (16-minute walk), housed in a former nightclub with a hard-to-find entrance.

Named after the legendary German photographer Helmut Newton—and lined with his nude snaps—Newton Bar (9-minute walk) is a chic spot for cocktails. Sip mugs of cold Augustiner brew in the rustic, wood-paneled Bavarian-style beer hall Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt (10-minute walk).

Sleek, understated interiors, a great central location and airy rooms with large windows make this property popular among the creative crowd. Specializing in local dishes made from sustainable and organic ingredients, the hotel's Scent restaurant is a stand-out, especially its breakfast buffet.
