Why We Like It

Equal parts elegant and trendy, the design-friendly hotel has lots of modern, Bauhaus-like touches but never feel cold. Along with excellent restaurant and bar options, there’s a greenery-filled atrium courtyard that’s an oasis in the bustling city.

Fodor's Expert Review

On a quiet residential street this turn-of-the-20th-century mansion feels like a hideaway even though Ku'damm is a short walk away. Luxurious minimalism reigns once you get inside. You can breakfast and sip afternoon tea at the sun-soaked tables in the atrium courtyard or, in the evening, sit and listen to piano music. Guest-room furnishings include pieces by Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe. Complementing the timeless Bauhaus style are ikebana floral arrangements. There’s also a decent-sized fitness room with a sauna.

Room

The large rooms are sleek and minimalist, done up mainly in black and red, with black leather, chrome accents and mood lighting. There are three different categories that vary in size and shape; some have balconies.

Bathroom

Spacious bathrooms, which vary depending on the room. Some are marble; others are in keeping with the slick red and black design in the rooms. There are rainshowers or combination rainshower/tub and some have dual sinks.

Lobby

There’s a small, modern lobby but the adjacent lounge is ideal for hanging out; the light, bright, windowed space features low-slung leather couches, lots of surrounding greenery and even a piano.

You Should Know You can cuddle with the friendly hotel cat, Kiki, who roams freely around the property.

Dining

Inside the hushed, elegant restaurant Die Quadriga, diners lean back in cherrywood chairs by Frank Lloyd Wright and feast on a small, precise menu that focuses on dry-aged German beef.

Drinking

The sexy, dramatically lit Sonderbar serves classic cocktails alongside provocatively-named mixed drinks.
