Fodor's Expert Review InterContinental Carlton Cannes
58 bd. de la Croisette, Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 06414, France
Used by Hitchcock as a suitably glamorous frame for Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief, this neoclassical landmark built in 1911, with is gleaming, renovated facade, staked out the best position early on, sitting right on the sidewalk of La Croisette, radiating symmetrically from its figurehead waterfront site—the better for you to be seen on the popular brasserie's terrace. Inside, the rooms vary. The nine seventh-floor sea-view suites are each named after a film star and decorated in Hollywood style. The rooms for mere mortals fall on the plain side: classic and compensated with occasional Provençal touches. Some rooms are faded, so be bold and ask for an upgrade. Also, look for online deals that offer a complimentary champagne breakfast (it's €42 per person otherwise).
- sense of history
- five-star service (most of the time)
- some rooms are lackluster so opt for sea views
- outrageous cost of extras, such as in-room Wi-Fi from €25
Rate Includes: Some meals
