Fodor's Expert Review Les Luminessences d'Avignon

As if the Palais des Papes weren't spectacular enough, twice nightly (at 9:15 and 10:15) for six weeks in August and September, the magical Luminessences 3-D light show transforms the palace into a gigantic canvas for a magnificent retelling of the history of the Avignon popes in glorious color. Although much of the accompanying narration is in French, there are now shows in English, but the language hardly matters as the imagery is provocative and arresting enough to stand on its own. A Christmas spectacle in lights is also held in the last weeks of November through December (free admission).
