Hôtel Le Vert Galant
43 rue Croulebarbe, 13e, Paris, 75013, FranceWhy We Like It
It may not be the height of chic, or in the thick of it all, but where else will you find a clean, comfortable setting with its own hidden garden for under 100 euros, we ask? And in a charming undiscovered Paris neighborhood to boot?
Fodor's Expert Review
In a little-known neighborhood west of Place d'Italie, abutting a lovely park, you'll find the welcoming Madame Laborde, the proprietress of this plain but proper budget hotel that encloses a peaceful green garden. Five of the rooms have kitchenettes, which can reduce dining-out costs, especially for families (that is unless the hotel's L'Auberge Etchegorry restaurant lures you in).
You Should Know If being in the thick of things is more important than saving some cash, you may reconsider. That said, nearby Buttes aux Cailles is a lovely neighborhood to discover.

Room
Rooms are are clean, comfortable and with a decor that's homey at best. Spread out on two floors, first-floor rooms open onto a charming garden that runs the length of the hotel.
Tip The hotel is happy to arrange shuttle service to Charles de Gaulle airport for much less than what a taxi would cost.
Bathroom
Renovated in recent years, the bathrooms are small, tidy and perfectly up to date.
Lobby
Though the garden, the small lobby and breakfast room provide a place to work or take a coffee if it's chilly in the garden.
Dining
The hotel's delightful L'Auberge Etchegorry restaurant serves a well-priced menu (especially at lunch) of French Basque classics. Victor Hugo was known to take a glass or two at this well regarded dining spot.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
A few minutes walk to Place d'Italie (lines 5, 6 et 7) direct to the Eiffel, Arc de Triomphe; and Métro Gobelins (lines 1 and 7) that takes you direct to Notre Dame de Paris, Hôtel de Ville, Louvre. Denfert Rochereau RER, a 10-minute walk, takes you direct to both airports. The 13th arrondissement is best known for its quiet, residential flavor and the lovely Buttes aux Cailles, with its storybook row houses and serene atmosphere. Paris's only remaining spring-fed pool (Piscine de la Buttes aux Cailles) is a short walk from the hotel as is the city's bustling Chinatown. There are also plenty of restaurants and shopping, and culture lovers can hop into the historic Gobelins tapestry manufacture or hop on one of the many nearby metros to go direct to most of Paris's best-loved tourist spots.
Restaurants
Les Cailloux (in the Buttes aux Cailles, of course) is a neighborhood staple for modern Italian cuisine and an excellent wine list. At Chez Mamane, on the same fortunate street, you can join the rest of the neighborhood for overflowing plates of authentic couscous at fabulous prices.
