Fodor's Expert Review Musée de la Libération

Cherbourg Museum/Gallery

Uniforms, photographs, maps, flags, posters, and medals at the Musée de la Libération, on the hill above the town (excellent sea views), recall Cherbourg's pivotal role at the end of World War II. It was the Allies' major bridgehead to France after the D-Day landings and the French terminus for the PLUTO seabed pipeline that pumped needed fuel under the Channel from the Isle of Wight.
