Fodor's Expert Review L'Essentiel
A nice change from the grand, overly formal hotel dining rooms that dominate Deauville, the relaxed atmosphere and sensational, seasonal cuisine at this contemporary eatery have made it extremely popular. Chef Charles Thuillant, whose pedigree includes stints at two top Paris restaurants, focuses on lighter Asian-inspired dishes with European influences. The menu—which might include grilled duck with mushrooms and carrots or wagyu beef with grilled vegetables—brings his talents to the forefront. A capacious terrace, a selection of excellent wines by the glass, and a bargain weekday lunch menu make L'Essentiel an ideal place to linger.
