Fodor's Expert Review Hôtel d'Angleterre
19 pl. Monseigneur-Tissier, Châlons-en-Champagne, Grand-Est, 51000, France
Guests at this stylish spot in central Châlons can enjoy well-appointed rooms (think modern furniture, marble bathrooms, and either wood floors or plush carpets) along with outstanding dining options. The rooms in the back are quietest, while those on the upper level have the most atmosphere. In the stellar restaurant, with its starched white tablecloths (closed Sunday; no lunch Monday or Saturday), chef Jacky Michel's creations include freshly caught scallops with truffles, chestnuts, and Champagne sauce, as well as seasonal desserts like pear millefeuille with crème de marrons (a chestnut conserve). Cheaper fare is offered in the brasserie, Les Temps Changent. Breakfast is a superb buffet.
- finely modernized rooms
- inventive cuisine
- the hotel and restaurants are all closed Sunday
- dinner service ends early
Rate Includes: Closed late July–mid-Aug., late Dec.–early Jan., and Sun., No meals
