Fodor's Expert Review Gray's Court Hotel
Chapter House St., York, York, YO1 7JH, England
With an unbeatable location between York Minster and its own half-acre garden, Gray's Court is an oasis of country-house peacefulness in the city center. The building is a period gem that dates back to 1080 with leaded-glass windows, limestone fireplaces, and a wood-paneled Jacobean Long Gallery, and the decor is of a similar quality. Bathrooms, however, are modern, with walk-in showers. There are two good restaurants, and meals can be taken in the garden.
- peaceful but convenient location
- attentive staff
- lovely period decor
- expensive parking
- skimpy breakfast buffet
