Watermillock, Ullswater, CA11 0LP, England
Dark carved wood, antique tiles, and a stunning location overlooking Ullswater give the Rampsbeck plenty of country-house style, and the hotel also manages to be more relaxed than some of its competition. The bar has old leather sofas and flock wallpaper, and there is a grand piano in the lounge. Bedrooms are all individually decorated, though they share a traditional style, with sumptuous fabrics, antique furniture, and floral touches. The restaurant, open to the public, offers a four-course fine dining menu including dishes such as sirloin of beef with a cheek and marrow fritter (£60), as well as afternoon tea.
