Fodor's Expert Review Simpson's in the Strand

$$$ Covent Garden British
Head straight for the 30-day roast rib of Scottish beef and Yorkshire puddings carved table-side at this magnificent 1828 dining institution. Originally a cigar lounge, coffeehouse, and later a famed chess venue, it was once frequented by the likes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Charles Dickens, and Vincent van Gogh. Even today it's impossible not to be impressed by the huge roasts served amid the antique chandeliers, polished oak-wood panelling, and ornate plasterwork ceiling.
