A luxe five-star hotel inspired by Britain’s war-time leader, the Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill Hotel is located in the well-heeled West End neighbourhood of Marylebone on the edge of leafy Portman Square. Popular with business travellers, the appeal here is service and convenience over exciting aesthetics. Rooms and public spaces are reassuringly plain but details like its limousine service for upscale guests adds a splash of glamor to the property.
Details throughout the hotel are inspired by the style of Winston Churchill so we’ll deduce that the rooms pay homage to the former Prime Minister’s Savile Row suits. Muted greys and whites provide the color palette and the ample rooms feature large flat screen TVs and work desks.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Standard rooms are rather plain so if you prefer a little extravagance then opt for a suite. Love contemporary art? Then choose the Saatchi Suite, whose collaboration with the Saatchi Gallery keeps it filled with the work of up-and-coming artists.
Marble sinks and grand mirrors are the key features of the super masculine grey bathrooms that come with Molton Brown toiletries.
The long, sweeping lobby offers a formal welcome with its polished marble floors, grand pillars and array of contemporary art. As a bonus, guests with a playful side—or budding Instagram game—can take their picture with the bust of Churchill in the lobby.
The hotel has a state of the art gym that guests available to guests 24-hours a day.
Dine on locally sourced produce with green views of the pretty Portman Square in the Montagu Restaurant. Or, if you prefer, indulge in on-site Michelin starred Italian cuisine at Locanda Locatelli.
The hotel's bottomless brunch is a cheerful-and possibly drunken-way to kick off the weekend.
It’s no secret that Winston Churchill liked a drink so why not follow in his footsteps in the eponymous Churchill Bar? Inspired by the Churchill’s, the art deco bar’s cocktail menu is an homage to Winston and his wife Clementine. A far cry from the rather plain rooms, the Churchill Bar is the place to be.
Those who don’t want to ‘stretch’ to the price of the hotel’s limousine travel will find black cabs easy to hail on the streets of Marylebone. Explore the local area on foot, searching out its array of indie boutiques and cafes but use the Tube to get to the other side of the West End. Marble Arch is the nearest station, a few minutes from the hotel.
When you’ve had your fill of Michelin starred Italian food at the hotel, head to nearby Orrery (14-minute walk) and dine on Michelin starred chef Igor Tymchyschyn’s classic French menu. After Italian and French, go adventurous with Japanese tapas at Dinings (13-minute walk).
For a beautiful cocktail in a bar whose atmosphere serves up a hefty dose of vintage romance on the side, head to Purl (7-minute walk). For more cocktails, make a booking at the Artesian Bar (14-minute walk) at the Langham, and let some of London’s best bartenders take care of you.
