Fodor's Review

Wooden beams and stone walls distinguish this 15th-century half-timber building, where the elegant dining room and sunny conservatory make a fine backdrop for superior Modern British dishes. The seasonal menu might include braised chicory tart as a starter, and roast Cotswold lamb with smoked eggplant compote to follow. Fixed-price lunch and evening menus are a good value. You can eat and drink less formally in the adjoining snug or bar and grill, where sharing platters of cheeses, cured meats, or fish lets you sample a bit of everything. Upstairs, five small guest rooms have twisted beams and sloping ceilings, including the Preacher's Room, where John Wesley used to stay.
