Fodor's Expert Review Cardynham House
Tibbiwell La., Painswick, Gloucestershire, GL6 6XX, England
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
In the heart of the village, this 15th- to 16th-century former wool merchant's house, which retains its beamed ceilings, Jacobean staircase, and Elizabethan fireplace, has four-poster beds in almost all of its rooms. The accommodations have creative themes such as the Medieval Garden, the Dovecote, and the Arabian Nights; one pricier option has a private pool. The adjoining restaurant serves simple but delicious dishes such as liver and bacon with onions and local lamb.
PROS
- romantic and quirky
- great food in restaurant
- tasty breakfasts
CONS
- some low ceilings
- mainly small bathrooms
- no Wi-Fi in rooms
