Fodor's Expert Review Manon les Suites
Gyldenløvesgade 19, 1600 København V, Copenhagen, Denmark See on Map
It's not just always summer, but always summer in the tropics, in Manon les Suites' amazing central courtyard and pool. The space, covered with a glass roof in winter and decked out with tropical plants, is gorgeous in any season but jaw-dropping in Copenhagen's bleaker months, when you leave behind snow and wind for 30-degree heat and turquoise water lapping against the sides of the pool, birdsong in the air. The rest of the hotel - the newest from the local Guldsmeden brand - is pretty funky too, with individual decor, hip staff and a good breakfast.
If Manon les Suites is full, the other Guldsmeden hotels in Copenhagen are not a bad bet either - all have the same hip feel if not the same pool-based wow factor.
room
Rooms - all are suites, able to acommodate up to five people - are cool and individual, with a focus on organic, environmentally-friendly products, lots of cabin-like wood, and new design, including modern four-poster beds that were designed specially for the property.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Some guests have found rooms by the pool can be a little noisy.
bathroom
Bathrooms are similarly trendy, with industrial style grey tiled floors, white brick tiles, and wooden easels for your towels.
lobby
The reception area is small but individual, with brightly patterned wallpaper, and staff are extremely welcoming. The outside of the hotel is a little less promising, but bear with it for what's inside.
pool
One of the best pools in Copenhagen, a tropical oasis in summer and winter.
gym
The hotel's basement hides a secret, an absolutely huge gym that's run externally but free to guests. It even has a boxing ring.
dining
The hotel breakfast, served in its rooftop restaurant, is fresh, organic and delicious, served on huge patterned plates. Dinner is also good.
drinking
As you'd expect, the rooftop bar here is great. Yummy cocktails, relaxed vibes, and a lovely outdoor terrace in the summer months.
LOCATION
Getting Around
The hotel is on the edge of the city center, close to Copenhagen's central lakes as well as Forum metro (7-minute walk).
Restaurants
For something a bit different, Llama (23-minute walk, 11-minute metro, 9-minute cycle) is a well-rated South American-style bar and restaurant close to the sights around Kongens Nytorv. Or leading contemporary Nordic food is on offer in a sleek venue at Höst (8-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
The pool is an absolute knock-out, and the rest of the hotel keeps up, too, with a destination rooftop bar and restaurant, cool design, an eco-friendly ethos (there's even organic Red Bull) and hip young staff who seem to really care about the hotel's mission.
