Fodor's Expert Review Ivek i Marek
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Celebrated for its delectable cakes made with whole wheat and unrefined brown sugar, Ivica i Marica also serves traditional Croatian pastas, likewise using whole wheat, as well as hearty meat dishes. Try the tofu-stuffed pepper, homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach and cheese, or Zagorje specialties including štrukli (baked pastry filled with cheese). This being in Zagreb, you can also choose grilled seafood or, say, begin with an octopus salad. Waitstaff are decked out in folk costume, and an earnest attempt is made to evoke a folksy atmosphere, with carriage wheels and farm implements hanging from the ceiling. It's a tad touristy, but this charming restaurant, with white tablecloths, sparkling wine glasses, and an upbeat sound track, is still a great place to dine.
