Hours of Operation

In Croatia business hours are from 8:30 to 4. Banks are open in all the main cities weekdays from 8 to 7, and on Saturday from 8 to noon; in smaller towns banks have shorter hours and are often closed during lunchtime. Post offices are open weekdays 7 to 7, and on Saturday from 7 to noon; in smaller towns post offices are open shorter hours, sometimes only in the morning. During the high tourist season (June through September), post offices are generally open until 8 pm, including Saturday. In Zagreb, shops and department stores are open weekdays 8 to 8, and on Saturday from 8 to 1. Malls and shopping centers are typically open 9 to 8, seven days a week. Along the coast most shops are open weekdays from 8 to 1 and 5 to 8, Saturday from 8 to 1. On the islands hours vary greatly from place to place, but usually at least one general store will be open Monday through Saturday for essentials.


In Croatia, national holidays include the following: January 1 (New Year's Day); January 6 (Epiphany); Easter Sunday and Monday; May 1 (May Day); Corpus Christi (40 days after Easter); June 22 (Anti-fascist Day); June 25 (Statehood Day); August 5 (National Thanksgiving Day); August 15 (Assumption), October 8 (Independence Day), November 1 (All Saints' Day), December 25 and 26 (Christmas).
