Fodor's Expert Review Bräugasthof
Seestrasse 120, Hallstatt, Upper Austria, A-4830, Austria
With an idyllic lakeside perch, this former 16th-century brewery (bräugasthof) offers distinctive charm. Outside is a pretty terrace set with trees and umbrella tables. Beyond the beer-hall restaurant (open May to October), you'll find Hallstatt gemütlichkeit in excess—cozy-nooked rooms, leaded-glass windows, Tyrolean armoires, tapestried chairs, coved hallways, and antique chandeliers. Upstairs, the guest rooms are fetching in their simplicity, and give a taste of the pension-style rooms so prevalent in Hallstatt (the tourist office can often place visitors for overnights in actual homes in the village); most have wooden balconies. The Lobisser family are your hosts and can tell you all about the brewery's connection to Emperor Maximilian I.
PROS

CONS
- noisy during the day
