Fodor's Review

The Waldaufkapelle is the best known part of this 13th-century church, home to Florian Waldauf's rather gruesome collection of 45 skulls, said to be those of B-list saints. Waldauf was something of a fixer for Emperor Maximilian I at the beginning of the 16th century who, apparently looking for a hobby as he became wealthier, decided that scouring Europe for such relics to purchase would be a jolly pursuit. He was as pleased as punch, by all accounts, when he was able to open his prized collection to the public. Now each one rests on an embroidered cushion and, incongruously, is also given a headdress—it's all horribly fascinating.
