Fodor's Expert Review Hermitage Plantation Inn
After cocktails in the inn's antiques-filled parlor (the knockout rum punches are legendary), dinner is served on the veranda. Many ingredients are harvested from the inn's herb garden, fruit trees, piggery, and livestock collection; the scrumptious cured meats, baked goods, preserves, and ice creams are homemade. Sumptuous dishes are prepared by long-time expat maestro Janice Ryan. A traditional wood-burning oven yields savory items as well, including what may be the best thin-crust pizzas within hundreds of miles. Wednesday night pig roasts are an island must; Friday night pizza and Caribbean cicchetti (small side dishes) are quite popular. The ever-growing wine list is exceptionally priced.
