Fodor's Expert Review Belle Mont Farm at Kittitian Hill
St. Paul's, St. Kitts, St. Kitts and Nevis Fodor's Choice
Spectacularly perched atop a hill with sweeping views, Belle Mont Farm is the opening salvo in the eco-centric Kittitian Hill development. Its sustainable philosophy embraces an on-site 400-acre organic farm, while integrating education and sponsoring experimental agricultural stations and craft workshops that will provide work to locals while instilling a sense of pride in place and culture. Belle Mont Farm comprises a grouping of luxurious "standard" guesthouses, farmhouses (each four linked cottages, replete with 100-foot pool, rented as a whole), and villas. Each opens onto majestic panoramic views of the surrounding valley and the Caribbean. Materials were sustainably sourced, from Guyanese greenheart floors to Canadian cedar-shake roofs; the Andasite stone was quarried on-site. Lodgings incorporate the latest smart technology (enormous flat-screens that lower to stream Netflix, cell phones to make requests and receive texts on where to pick the ripest fruit, et al), while recalling colonial grandeur with touches like claw-foot tubs in the stunning alfresco bathrooms. The marvelous multicourse Kitchen restaurant sits in the Great House. Irie Fields, the 18-hole edible golf course, is one of only three such wholly organic developments in the world. The green approach costs buckets of green, but everything from the billeting to bill of fare justifies the final bill.
