Since 2007, Chef Jose Enrique's eponymous restaurant has been the preferred choice of locals, and he is the first Puerto Rican chef to receive the prestigious James Beard award nomination, for three consecutive years. His elevated Puerto Rican cuisine is served in a casual setting. The menu, on an eraser board, changes all the time, but crab fitters are a staple, as is the whole fried yellowtail snapper served over a root mash with avocado and papaya salsa. The no-reservation policy means you'll wait for a table. Put your name on the list and wander around La Placita, where you can sip cheap drinks and mingle with locals.
