Fodor's Expert Review The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan
6961 Av. de los Gobernadores, San Juan, 00979, Puerto Rico
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
Undeniably elegant, this luxury hotel sits on a lovely, sandy beach near the airport but is starting to show its age. Marble floors and fountains don't undermine the beach-getaway feel, and the cruciform pool, lined with statues of the chain's signature lion, is just as attractive as it always has been. Rooms have a bright, polished look with understated luxury—turquoise divans, gray quilted headboards, and marble bathrooms. Although most room windows are sealed to muffle airport noise, many suites open onto terraces, and numerous rooms have balconies. You can pamper yourself at the full-service spa with spirulina-algae body wraps and hot stone massages. The casino has a separate entrance from the lobby, and there's a speakeasy-style bar called After Dark.
