Fodor's Expert Review Vue Pointe Hotel
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Montserrat's oldest, classiest hostelry keeps rising—literally—like a phoenix from the ashes, thanks to its gracious hosts, the Osborne family. Carol, American by birth, is as fiercely proud as any island native and a font of local lore and information. The bar and restaurants always percolate with life in season. Comfy, hexagonal rondavels sit amid grounds ablaze with red hibiscus, yellow allamanda, and pink oleander. Traditionally furnished rooms enlivened by local photos bear out the hotel's name with extraordinary volcano and/or water vistas (numbers 7 and 24 are the winners). Those with kitchenettes are particular bargains: experience true tranquility sipping a rum punch on your terrace as the sun fireballs across the long, gray ribbon of Old Road Bay.
- glorious setting with views of the volcano and beach
- fascinating, knowledgeable owners and clientele
- continual closures due to volcanic activity
- indifferent food
