1. Casino Batelière Plazza
On the outskirts of Fort-de-France, the Casino Batelière Plaza was built in a striking nouveau-plantation-house style, all cranberry and white. Slots open at 10 am, but table games (American roulette, blackjack, and stud poker) don't start until after 8 pm and close at 3:00 am. There's always a bar open, and you can often catch live entertainment on weekends after 8. It's open Sunday night, when most places are shut tight. Restaurant Le Club Seven, which serves Franco-creole food, offers themed parties on weekends. A new concert hall is impressive as well.

2. Casino Trois-Îlets
The interior of this small casino was designed in a French Quarter style and houses slot machines, blackjack, U.S. roulette, stud poker, and craps (Friday and Saturday). The casino is open daily from 10 am to 3 am, but the gaming tables don't start cranking until 9. On weekends in high season, a DJ spins Caribbean, Creole, and international beats, and there's a dance floor. The restaurant serves up a marriage of refined creole and international fare, with fresh local produce; however, the tables are right in the middle of the floor, which is not conducive to fine dining. There is often a cover charge when there is an event.

3. Club Med Buccaneer's Creek
At Club Med Buccaneer's Creek, you can buy a night pass that will give you all the food, drinks, and entertainment you can handle from 7 pm until the disco closes at 1 am. While it comes at a hefty price, it includes an extensive buffet dinner with wine, a show in the theater, and drinks and dancing afterward. Friday is the best night to come since both the food and shows are most elaborate. Entertainment changes based on a two-week cycle. Following the show, it's on to dancing at the disco if you can hang.

4. Complexe Le Crazy (Nights)
Dance ClubThis club remains popular because it's all about having one crazy time. With upward of 1,000 partying people, your chances of enjoying yourself are good. Live concerts are frequent, but dancing and hip-swinging are the priorities. Islanders are drawn to this club, and some young 'n' fun tourists follow suit. Like most clubs here, Crazy Nights has a hefty entrance fee, especially if there's a popular group in concert.

5. Hôtel Bakoua
The quality entertainment here ranges from piano concerts to singers to jazz combos on up to full swimsuit fashion shows or splashy variety shows. You can also go to the hotel's waterfront Le Coco Bar or the tropical Le Gommier bar and order a cocktail. There's a litany of island rums, from white to amber and rhum vieux. It's usually best to call the hotel first to learn what's on the schedule, since events taper off during the low season.

6. Hotel Cap Macabou
Cap Macabou in Vauclin has "dancing dinners" and theme nights, most often on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, there's usually a midday buffet with dancing to a band—you can even bring your bathing suit. There are often salsa soirees with Latin music, as well as holiday parties in season, which are quite celebratory.

7. Infinity
This two-story bar and gourmet food boutique has live entertainment on weekends and a sophisticated bar with tables, some on a small terrace. The cuisine is contemporary Italian, the presentation is artistic, and the service is praiseworthy. It serves late into the night, closing at midnight, and it opens at 11 am for lunch.

8. La Marine
La Marine is a busy bar and restaurant with live entertainment, mainly a local band on Saturday nights. Open daily, expats and boaters hang here for the reasonably priced, good pizza and old-world Italian and French classics. As one expat puts it, "It will probably be here for life!" There's nothing contemporary about this place—on quiet nights you can hear the wind in the riggings and check out the boat action on the docks.

9. Le Bolibar
Located within the modern four-star hotel Le Simon, Le Bolibar lounge and restaurant offers a breathtaking view on la Baie des Flamands. Open from 5 pm to 10 pm; you can enjoy your cocktail and tapas on the terrace at sunset. The service can take time.

If you want European specialties, this restaurant-bar is the place to be. The duck breast burger is a must-try. On weekends, there is a live band or DJ.

11. Le Kano Bar Lounge Restaurant
At this trendy, beachfront bar and lounge/restaurant, creole-influenced tapas and brochettes as well as creative Caribbean cocktails are happily consumed while relaxing Caribbean music plays in the background; a full menu is available, too. Spacious with several open rooms leading to the beach, it is wheelchair accessible, and the contemporary Euro furniture is inviting. Guests enjoy some of the best Martinican dark (aged) rum. Happy hours are fun, and in season, a DJ cranks until 3 am on Friday and Saturday nights. The beach party on Sunday afternoons rocks. Kano is across the street from the Casino des Trois-Îlets, and the ample parking there makes it easy to visit both.
