Fodor's Expert Review Blue Cave Castle
West End Rd., Negril, Westmoreland, Jamaica
One of Negril's most exceptional properties (and that's saying something in this land of one-of-a-kind boutique hotels) is a castle perched 50 feet over an actual pirate's cave. A treasure is found within the walls of Blue Cave Castle, a keep towering over the cliffs of Negril. Each of the rooms boasts a seaside view; the most elaborate is the Penthouse, with its three private sunning decks. Seven superior rooms have air-conditioning and cable TV. You can snorkel through the grotto into a secluded garden, or just descend the flight of stairs carved into the cliff face to the seaside, where you can sit upon stone king and queen thrones and watch the sun sink into the cobalt-blue water of the Caribbean. An on-site restaurant serves breakfast and dinner at additional costs.
PROS
- unique accommodations
- good snorkeling
- friendly staff
CONS
- basic rooms
- no beach
- some rooms lack a/c (but do have fans)
