Fodor's Expert Review Port Louis
This fishing village of about 7,000 people is best known for Le Soufleur Plage. It was once one of the island's prettiest beaches, but it has become a little shabby. Yet the road construction is finally coming to an end, and it is looking better. Although the beach is crowded on weekends, it's blissfully quiet during the week. The sand is fringed by flamboyant trees, and there are also spectacular views of Basse-Terre. Near the dock, Chez Henri is a good restaurant, friendly and hip.
