Fodor's Expert Review Plage de Malendure

Caribbean Beach

Across from Pigeon Island and the Jacques Cousteau Underwater Park, this long, gray, volcanic beach facing the Caribbean's calm waters has restrooms, a few beach shacks offering cold drinks and snacks, and a huge parking lot. Don't come here for solitude, as the beach is a launch point for many dive boats. The snorkeling is good. Le Rocher de Malendure, a seafood restaurant, is perched on a cliff overlooking the bay. Food carts work the parking lot. Amenities: food and drink; parking (no fee); toilets. Best for: partiers; snorkeling; swimming.
