Fodor's Expert Review Villa Serena

Decidedly one of the better hotels in the eastern corner of the peninsula, Villa Serena makes for a wonderful, stress-free Samaná vacation. The secluded, oceanfront location is removed from the business of the main beach, but it's close enough to walk to town. Included in the price are the use of kayaks, bicycles, and snorkeling equipment. The views of El Cayito and of the long pier are a large part of the joy. In the newer wing, the sensational room 17 has two balconies; it and room 21 are the best choices. The restaurant—both the food and service—is simple, with a limited but healthful menu, with breakfast the stand-out. Ask about yoga and zumba classes and excursions, which the hotel will arrange for you.
