Fodor's Expert Review Avila Beach Hotel
130 Penstraat, Willemstad, n/a Curaçao, Curaçao Fodor's Choice
Even though it's been around for over six decades, beautifully restored Dutch colonial architecture and a lively contemporary vibe keep this legendary complex from ever feeling dated. A spacious infinity pool attracts families and couples alike, while two private beaches offer guests a soothing spot to enjoy surf-side pleasures. Perches atop the two signature wooden pier towers provide spectacular sunset views. All accommodations have been renovated, including the Blues wing on a warm wood outcropping over the sea, and the original La Belle Alliance rooms and suites. But it's the most recent addition—the Octagon wing—that seriously impresses. Ethereal spacious rooms flanked by large balconies—with state-of-the-art amenities throughout—bring modern luxury to this historic estate. There's also a small museum on-site where Simón Bolívar's sisters once lived.
