Cruise-Ship Travel

Cuba's cruise season runs November through April. At this writing, Carnival (under its new Fathom brand) and Haimark Line have announced plans for Cuba cruises with cultural exchange itineraries, a category of travel permitted by the U.S. government for its citizens.

Cuba Cruise. The 1,200-passenger Louis Cristal calls at Havana, María la Gorda, Cienfuegos, Santiago, with a stop in Montego Bay. 855/364–4999;

Star Clippers. The tall ships of Star Clippers sail on various five- to seven-day cruises that take in several Cuban ports and begin and end in Havana or Cienfuegos. 800/442–0551;

Voyages of Discovery. Onboard expert speakers add to the background on Voyage of Discovery's 15-day cruise that begins in Cozumel and ends in Barbados, and takes in several Caribbean ports including Havana and Santiago. 800/510–9061;
