Fodor's Expert Review The Bubbly Pool

Jost Van Dyke Beach

A small opening in Jost Van Dyke's rocky cliffs channel the wild Atlantic's waters into a naturally formed Jacuzzi that bubbles with wave action with northerly winter swells. There is a tiny sand beach reached by a pleasant 15-minute hike along a trail that winds past small stands of mangroves and a salt pond filled with ducks and wading birds.Ask locals for tips on finding the trail and about safety precautions. While the pool requires some swell to get things bubbling (and can be disappointing on a flat day), never climb rocks around the pool or attempt to exit the small opening. Use caution during stormy weather.
