Fodor's Expert Review The Main House

Great Inagua Island, Inagua Islands, Bahamas

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The Morton Salt Company operates this small, affordable guesthouse, with spotless and spacious guest rooms that have dark-wood furnishings, Masonite-paneled walls, and floral-print drapes and spreads. On the second of two floors, air-conditioned rooms share a sitting area with couches and a telephone. The green-and-white hotel is right in Matthew Town, behind the grocery store and directly across the street from the island's power plant. There is a dining room, which may be the only restaurant in town that reliably serves breakfast. For dinner you'll have to check out other local restaurants.

PROS

  • very inexpensive
  • clean
  • walking distance to a couple of bars and restaurants

CONS

  • no Internet service
  • power plant can be noisy
  • restaurant open for breakfast and lunch only
