5 Best Hotels in The Abacos, Bahamas

Background Illustration for Hotels

Intimate hotels, cottage-style resorts, and rental homes are the rule in the Abacos. There are a few full-scale resorts in Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay, Green Turtle Cay, and Hope Town—with multiple restaurants, bars, pools, and activities—but most accommodations are more homey. What you might give up in modern amenities you'll gain in privacy and beauty. Many hotels have water views, and with a cottage or private house you may even get your own stretch of beach. Air-conditioning is a standard feature, and more places are adding luxuries like cable TV and wireless Internet. Small and remote doesn't equate with inexpensive, however; it's almost impossible to find lodging for less than $100 a night, and not uncommon to pay more than $300 a night for beachside accommodations with all the conveniences.

Bahama Beach Club

$$$$ | Treasure Cay, Bahamas Fodor's Choice

Ideal for families and small groups, these two- to five-bedroom condos are right on the famous Treasure Cay beach. Interiors vary, but each unit has ceramic-tile floors and stylish furniture with colorful accents, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and a large living room. All also have a screened-in patio or balcony overlooking the azure ocean and the grounds, which are landscaped with tropical palms. Like most Treasure Cay properties, Bahama Beach Club suffered extensive damage as a result of Hurricane Dorian in 2019, but a couple years of hard work have brought this spot back to life. These are some of the nicest condos in The Abacos.

Pros

  • Luxury accommodations on one of the most sublime beaches in the world
  • Large pool area with Jacuzzi
  • Only hotel in Treasure Cay

Cons

  • Check-in can be slow

The Delphi Club

$$$$ | Bahamas Fodor's Choice

Although The Delphi Club is billed as a bonefishing lodge, it's a great middle-of-nowhere bed-and-breakfast perfect for anyone looking to get away from it all but not willing to give up style or comfort. The plantation-style lodge boasts a grand great room, where guests gather for multicourse meals at a long wooden table that seats 24 and then retire to one of the comfy couches, the library (where the only television on-property is hardly ever turned on), or a chair on the wide wraparound balcony that offers incredible ocean views. Days are filled with bonefishing or deep-sea fishing for the anglers, bird-watching, or lounging poolside or on the long, private white-sand beach below.  Nonguests can join the group for dinners if space is available. Dinner reservations are essential and must be made before noon that day.

Pros

  • Private and secluded
  • Lots of on-site activities
  • Situated on a beautiful private beach

Cons

  • Very remote
  • Lots of stairs
  • Dinner is always family style at a set time
