Fodor's Review

Allan Scott has been working in Marlborough vineyards since 1973 and launched his own company in 1990. Now he makes well-respected Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, methode traditionelle (try the Blanc de Blancs), Gewürztraminer, and Riesling (the last two are particularly good). The whole family is involved: Allan's son Joshua is the winemaker, his younger daughter Sara a viticulturist, and elder daughter Victoria looks after marketing. Josh also makes NZ's first methode traditionelle beer—a tasty, rather manly brew called Moa, at his brewery just across the road. The Allan Scott cellar door adjoins the indoor-outdoor Twelve Trees restaurant, which opens out to a delightful herb garden. Marlborough salmon fillet and seafood chowder are menu classics.
