Fodor's Expert Review Stations Inn
The place that many locals consider to be a special-occasion destination provides visitors with a chance to experience high-quality, classic New Zealand fare. It's been a consistent winner of awards for the beef and lamb it serves, and has a reputation for matching foods with the West Coast brew, Monteiths. Stations Inn sits on a river terrace a couple of miles out of Hokitika, alongside a small number of accommodation suites and studios. On summer evenings you can sit outside and enjoy the view across the countryside; inside you can peruse the historic gold-mining photos. This was the site of the Blue Spur Gold fields, where some 2,500 people lived in the 1860s.
