Fodor's Expert Review Raupo
An imposing structure of glass, wood, and river stone sits beautifully on a small bend in the Taylor River, and is named for the nearby bulrushes, or raupo, along the river. You can sit on the terrace in summer or cozy up to the fireplace in winter. Co-owner/chef Stephane is French and he works with the original owner Marcel Rood, of Dutch origin, and their meals are light, healthy, organic, and locally sourced when possible. Favorites include rib-eye beef, chicken breast, crispy pork belly, and locally caught fish of the day. Both à la carte and set menus for lunch and dinner are available, plus a five-course "surprise" degustation (by prior arrangement). Raupo is also a favored morning and afternoon coffee, tea, and cake stop and offers an indulgent selection of high-tea morsels and muffins.
