Fodor's Expert Review Pelorus Bridge Café
One of the better on-the-road cafés in the area (actually one of the few) serves great breakfasts and wholesome, homemade lunches to both passersby and the happy campers in the adjacent Kahikatea Flat DOC Campsite. The food is great (try the rabbit or venison pie) and so is the setting. The backdrop beside the rocky, tree-lined Pelorus River is lovely, especially in summer when you can eat under the trees. Lord of the Rings fans might recognize the river; it was here that the Hobbits performed their famous "Barrel Scene." This place can get busy in summer holiday time (January/February), though the staff seem to take it all in their stride and handle the crowds.
