Fodor's Expert Review The Last Resort
71 Waverley St., Karamea, West Coast, 7893, New Zealand
Glowing hardwood beams salvaged from the forest floor, stylish local artwork, and unusual turf roof make this place (the last place to stay on the West Coast, heading north) look very much at one with its surroundings. Check out the solid 80-foot-long hardwood roof beam in the bar area. Accommodations include two-bedroom cottages, studio units, en suite lodge rooms, and lodge rooms with shared facilities. Your hosts can arrange tours, helicopter rides, and shuttles to and from the Heaphy Track. The restaurant and café will set you up well if you've just come off the Heaphy Track—at least with a local Coaster brew from the bar.
