Fodor's Expert Review Straw Lodge
17 Fareham La., off Wairau Valley Rd., Renwick, Marlborough, 7271, New Zealand
Down a quiet lane near the Wairau River, these stylish rural accommodations on an organic vineyard are about as peaceful as it gets and occupy unique buildings of straw-bale construction, making them extra quiet, as well as warm in winter and cool in summer. Each suite is private but can be interconnected through a common courtyard, making this a good choice for extended families and other groups. Start your day with breakfast under the grape-covered pergola overlooking the lodge's working vineyard, and end it with a hot tub soak under the stars, sipping the lodge's own World's End vintage. There is a courtyard with barbecue for guests, also complimentary use of bikes (including electric) and golf clubs (for nearby courses). Guests are welcome to join the family on the vineyard.
