Looking a bit like the little house on the prairie, yet just 12 km (7 miles) from town, this river-rock-and- timber homestay with two king rooms is a delight, full of rustic appeal. It's only a 10-minute walk down to the coast, there's a tennis court (racquets provided), and a three-minute walk takes you to the nearest restaurant. Kids love the sheep and pigs and the open spaces, while adults enjoy a landscaped barbecue area, and outdoor bathtub in the garden. The new West Coast Wilderness cycle trail runs past the front gate, and your hosts will lend you their bikes so you can go exploring if you wish—the whole length or just the 15 minutes to the local pub.
