Fodor's Expert Review D'Urville Island Wilderness Resort
Catherine Cove, d'Urville Island, Rai Valley, , Marlborough, 7193, New Zealand
This secluded resort offers a truly remote experience in two-bedroom beachfront units, a Kiwi-style bach (holiday cottage), and a bunkhouse, all overlooking the sheltered waters of Catherine Cove. The resort is a 30-minute boat ride across French Pass (a water-taxi service picks you up from the French Pass wharf) and is a wilderness base for hiking, mountain biking, and snorkeling, or just watching the sunrises and the passing of orca whales. Fishing and scenic boat tours also available, or you could just take out a dinghy, complimentary for guests. A fully licensed bar and restaurant are on the premises. Accommodation reservations are essential.
