Fodor's Expert Review Redcliff Café & Bar
If you want to try some of the good food that's produced in this area, Redcliff is the place to go. Even the atmosphere is true South at this cozy wooden cottage, with a roaring fire in winter. Cast and crew of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies were known to drop in for dinner or a drink during filming, including actor John Rhys-Davie, who famously snuck a Shakespearean soliloquy into a local poetry evening. Among the dishes served, the wild hare and venison are excellent. So, too, is the crème brûlée. There's a range of local and NZ wines and good beer and cider on tap. Reservations are advised as Redcliff is Te Anau's worst-kept secret.
