Fodor's Expert Review The Rees

377 Frankton Rd., Queenstown, Otago, 9300, New Zealand

Staff at The Rees are particularly attentive considering the large size of this place, named for Queenstown's first European settler, William Gilbert Rees, who oversaw the birth of the town during the 1860s gold rush. One of his descendants now owns an apartment in the hotel. With two types of hotel room and three apartment sizes to choose from, it's suitable for solos and larger groups. The True South restaurant is a repeat winner of top awards for wine and food and it's worth sacrificing a night on the town to dine in. Although it's quite far from town, the hotel offers an hourly shuttle, and there is a private jetty if you choose to return via water taxi.
