Fodor's Expert Review Marsden Estate Winery and Restaurant

$$$ Kerikeri Eclectic

Named after the missionary Samuel Marsden, who planted New Zealand's first grapevines in Kerikeri in 1819, this winery is a popular lunch spot and for good reason. On a fine day ask for a table on the terrace. The seasonal menu is eclectic and is built around fresh seasonal produce. It is a great place for breakfast with vegan and gluten-free options available. Of the winery's small but notable output, the full-bodied Black Rocks Chardonnay has won national and international awards. All grapes are handpicked and grown on-site with the exception of the Viognier, which comes from a vineyard 90 minutes south, and the Sauvignon Blanc, which is from Marlborough in the South Island.
