Fodor's Expert Review Okiato Lodge
Russell, Northland, RD 1, New Zealand
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Okiato is high up on Okiato Point, looking out on Opua, Paihia, and other Bay of Islands locales. Spacious rooms include step-down lounge areas, with high-vaulted ceilings and large windows with great views. With balconies and patios leading out onto the terraced grounds, each room has its own private access to the Point, and a track leads right down to the water. There is also a two-bedroom semi-detached cottage. The high-end rates include drinks and a four-course dinner, which emphasizes New Zealand favorites such as scallops, venison, and lamb.
