Fodor's Expert Review The Herb Farm and Cafe
About 10 minutes from the city, this farm café is a worthy lunch stop for those exploring the countryside or returning from a trip to the Te Apiti Wind Farm. Not surprisingly, the fare is local, organic, and includes healthy infusions of fresh herbs—homemade tofu herb fritters being a prime example. It serves a wholesome selection of Kiwi breakfast standards, including free-range bacon and eggs; tasty sandwiches and salads dominate the lunch menu. Walk off the meal and calm the spirit by wandering through 2 acres of herb gardens (NZ$3.50 self-guided, map provided); the herbs are used in healing products that are made and sold here.
