Fodor's Expert Review Mon Logis
415 Marine Parade, Napier, Hawke's Bay, 4110, New Zealand
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Built in the 1860s and one of the few houses that escaped destruction in 1931, this splendid mansion–cum–boutique hotel feels like a little piece of France. Its front windows overlook the ocean and distant Cape Kidnappers; in the guest rooms, white matchboard ceilings hover above white bedspreads and lace-trimmed pillowcases. Gallic host Gerard Averous is passionate in his desire to ensure his guests are comfortable and enjoy their visit. Breakfast can include freshly baked croissants and a French omelet.
PROS
- a superb breakfast with Gerard, a genial Gallic host
- sea views
- great location
CONS
- Gerard actually supports the French rugby team
